Thanks to modern smartphones, you can quickly find a wide selection if you type the keyword towing into a search engine. After a few calls, you may find that the tow truck you’re looking for is on the other side of the country, so you’ll have a long wait and it will likely be expensive. Narrowing it down next can help determine where the problem is. For example, if you have a breakdown on the highway, you can enter “towing m3” or “towing M1” and so on, depending on where you broke down. However, you can also try the name of a bigger city nearby, e.g. Towing Tiszaújváros, if you have an accident on the M3 near Gyöngyös.
Towing prices: When are you guaranteed to pay a lot?
As mentioned above, it becomes most expensive when the tow truck has to come from far away. This is not always the case, but if you have a breakdown near Gyöngyös and want to drive to Debrecen, it will probably cost the same, as tow trucks charge a round trip for longer distances, which is understandable. Of course, if you don’t want to wait too long, it is better to call a tow truck from a closer area.
The other case is that you search on the Internet and are tempted by the prices, which are cheap at first sight. Usually, either in the fine print or after the fact, it turns out that there are other costs that will be charged to us after the fact.
Hungarian rates for towing vehicles in 2022 vary between 130 Ft/km – 280 Ft/km (0,35 EUR – 0,7 EUR / km), depending on the weight and size of the vehicle (motorcycle, car, SUV, van, minibus), calculated from place to place. If you are offered a much cheaper rate, you should call to find out what other costs you should expect if you order a towing service. These rates were in effect in March; if fuel prices increase permanently, they will likely be higher.
